Bible Verses linked to Worship Songs

Bible Verses linked to Worship Songs

As a church we are currently following a series of short video messages by Ian, “How to Walk in the Wilderness.” The theme for Week 2 is “Sing Praise Over Despair.” Ian’s video message can be found here: Sing Praise Over Despair.

Ian will be giving a Bible verse, each day to accompany the weekly theme.

This week (as our theme is “Sing Praise Over Despair”) there will also be links with the daily Bible verse to worship songs. The songs will be either a contemporary song or a traditional hymn, for you to listen to depending upon your musical preferences.

Tuesday 7th April 2020

Today’s verse to help you sing praise over despair is Psalm 40 v.3. (The verse and songs have been chosen with the theme of “a new song” in mind.)

“He put a new song in my mouth,

a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

and put their trust in the Lord.”

Psalm 40 v.3

“I Choose To Worship” – Rend Collective (Live In Minneapolis, March 2020)

Psalm 40 v.3  |  Here is the contemporary song, “I Choose To Worship.” This was filmed at Rend Collective’s last concert before the Coronavirus restrictions.

A message from Rend Collective (posted on “I Choose To Worship – Live in Minneapolis” on YouTube):

“These moments from the last time we gathered together with the people of God in Minneapolis are emotional to revisit. We took to stage that night, after exhaustively wrestling with the heart- breaking decision to reschedule our tour, desperate for a fresh encounter. Not another tour date. A raw and real connection with Jesus. As we timidly taught this brand new song to the congregation (a vulnerable moment for any band) something in the atmosphere shifted. We were no longer singing songs. We were drawing a line in the sand.

We were declaring that our collective hurt feelings and insecurities, our fragile futures and uncertain circumstances, would not and would never diminish the glory and goodness of God.

“In the valley you are worthy, you are good when life is not, You will always and forever be my song” And then the bridge hit like a heavyweight’s left hook. I can’t know for certain, but I believe in my Spirit that the church was hurting hell’s feeling in that moment!

“When the enemy says I’m done I’ll lift my praises,

When my world comes crashing down I’ll lift my praises

Till the darkness turns to dawn I lift my praises

I choose to worship, I choose You now.”

It’s our prayer that this will be YOUR anthem. Your line in the sand. Your battle cry. We do not choose to fear. We do not choose to give up. We choose to worship.”

LYRICS:

I choose to worship
I choose to bow
Though there’s pain in the offering
I lay it down

Here in the conflict
When doubt surrounds
Though my soul is unravelling
I choose You now

I will praise You through the fire
Through the storm and through the flood
There is nothing that could ever steal my song
In the valley You are worthy
You are good when life is not
You will always and forever be my song

I build my altar
Right here and now
In the midst of the darkest night
It won’t burn out

For You are perfect
No matter what
In the joy or the suffering
I sing it loud

When the enemy says I’m done I lift my praises
When my world comes crashing down I lift my praises high
Till the darkness turns to dawn I lift my praises
I choose to worship, I choose You now
