An Act of Worship for Good Friday: 10am

An Act of Worship for Good Friday (10am)

Welcome to this Act of Worship for Good Friday. Although we cannot meet together we hope you can follow along using this as a personal devotion for prayer and reflection, on your own or with your household. If you can do this at 10am we will have a sense of doing this together, but of course this is available for you to use throughout the day if you would like.
To participate simply follow in the order set out below. Play the songs, listening or joining in to sing (the words will be sub-titled.) Listen to the Bible reading, and then follow with Ian’s video message: “Why is there Good Friday?”
Finally, the prayers are meant to be prayed by yourself and/or with your family together.

Please begin by pausing to pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you and bless you during this act of worship.

Prayers of Intercession

Heavenly Father on this Good Friday when Gethsemane has come to our hospitals, we pray for those caring for the sick, remembering especially those doctors, nurses, and health care professionals we know.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Suffering Jesus, on this Good Friday when Gethsemane has come to our hospitals, we pray for the sick and those breathing their last, remembering especially those we might know suffering from the Coronavirus.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Healing Saviour, on this Good Friday when Gethsemane has come to our hospitals, we pray for those mourning the death of a loved one at this time, remembering especially those we might know who mourn.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Loving Father, on this Good Friday when Golgotha casts its shadow across our world, we pray for those who have been left anxious from the heaviness and isolation of the Coronavirus, remembering especially the vulnerable and those we know who need our comfort.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Sovereign Lord, on this Good Friday when Golgotha casts its shadow across our world, we pray for world leaders managing this global crisis and scientists searching for a vaccine, remembering especially those governing our Island, and our Health Minister Richard Renouf, his wife, Wendi, and their children.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Compassionate Lord, on this Good Friday when Golgotha casts its shadow across our world, we pray for those who have lost their jobs or had their employment furloughed, remembering especially those we know who have been affected.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Lord Jesus on this Good Friday when Golgotha casts its shadow across our world, we pray for those who continue to work to provide food and other essential needs to us, remembering especially those we know.

Pause and pray:

Jesus, Son of God, hear our Prayer

Standing at the foot of the cross, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray:

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen

Concluding Prayer

Most merciful God,

who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ

delivered and saved the world:

grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross

we may triumph in the power of his victory;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen
