Thy Kingdom Come in Lockdown!
Eleven Days of Global Prayer: 21st May – 31st May 2020
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus. What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.
Once again, we will be participating in the Archbishops of Canterbury and York initiative between Ascension Day and Pentecost, as we pray for more people to know Jesus Christ. The 11 Days of Global Prayer will conclude on Pentecost Sunday.
For many of us over recent years, the Archbishops’ prayer initiative, ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ has been a special time. Inevitably, this year will be different, but hopefully no less special.

Three ways to be involved!
19 Hours of Prayer
Thursday 21 May and Saturday 30 May (from 6am-1am)
As in previous years, we are going to be praying in hourly intervals through the day and evening on 21st and 30th May. Rather than making these events 24 hours of prayer, we’re going to pray for 19 hours (after Covid-19). To participate, please reply by email to the church office to sign up for an hour on either or both days.
Pray for 5
Thy Kingdom Come is all about praying for people we know to come to faith in Jesus. In recent years, we have been encouraged to pray for 5 friends or family members. As we are hoping to run an online Alpha course in June, why don’t you pray for an opportunity for you to invite someone to take part in Alpha online? As a way of encouragement, 748 Alpha courses have started since April with huge numbers attending!
Prayer Walk
Why not take the days of Thy Kingdom Come to do a prayer walk? This is what I’ll be doing each day, and I’ll send some ways to pray in this way later in the week.

‘Thy Kingdom Come – 2020 Anthem’ by Pete James
This song is very new! It has been produced especially for ‘Thy Kingdom Come 2020’ and is set to a very familiar tune.

Thy Kingdom Come 2020
During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:
- Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
- Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus
- Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness
“After the very first Ascension Day the disciples gathered with Mary, constantly devoting themselves to prayer while they waited for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.”
Like them, our reliance on the gift of the Holy Spirit is total – on our own we can do nothing.
The Prayer for Thy Kingdom Come
Read the prayer which thousands of people across the world will be praying during Thy Kingdom Come, and which will be at the heart of every event.
Almighty God,
your ascended Son has sent us into the world
to preach the good news of your kingdom:
inspire us with your Spirit
and fill our hearts with the fire of your love,
that all who hear your Word
may be drawn to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
