Plough Sunday at St. George’s Church
On Sunday 4th February, St. George’s Church will celebrate Plough Sunday with St Ouen’s Methodists and friends from the farming community.
Plough Sunday is traditionally a service of prayer, dedication and blessing for all those involved in agriculture and the countryside. It is an opportunity to cherish the land and human labour, and to remind us all of our dependence upon it and upon God.
Plough Sunday marks the beginning of the farming year (though a little later this year, as traditionally Plough Sunday is in January, on the first Sunday after Epiphany.) The plough will be delivered to St George’s church, for the service of blessing which is accompanied by prayers from the farming community for the coming year’s work on the land leading to a plentiful harvest.
We are pleased to have our friends from St Ouen’s Methodist Church and representatives and friends from the farming community with us.
