Unfortunately due to Covid, we have had to cancel these groups and meet-ups (below.) But we are determined to still stay connected as a church family.

(Ages 0-11) Children’s Sunday Groups (pre-Covid)

We have a growing and lively number of children at St. Ouen’s Parish Church. Our Sunday School Children’s Groups happen during the 10am Contemporary Morning Worship Service at St. Ouen’s Parish Church. Normally (before Covid 19) we have separate, different aged Sunday Groups, that are lead by qualified church leaders and assisted by a number of volunteer helpers.

We believe that all our pre-school and primary school children’s groups should be based on the themes of:

Live, Laugh, Love and Learn!

Currently, we operate our Children’s Sunday Groups from two sites, The Parish Church and St. Ouen’s Youth and Community Centre (YCC.) Children Under 3 meet at The Parish Church at 10am. Children aged 3-11 are dropped off at the YCC at 9.45am, for their groups, and transported back to church for the end of the service. All groups meet every Sunday, except on the first Sunday of the month when we all meet together for an “All-In” Service.

Babies and Pre-School Infants (aged 0-3)

SWAMP (Sunday Worship and Morning Praise) Babies and Children 0-3

Under 3’s takes place during the Church Service on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday’s at 10am at St. Ouen’s Parish Church. It begins after a time of sung worship and is held in ‘The Fellowship Area’ of the Church.

With this age group, we focus on familiarising the infants with the church surroundings, establishing a routine of play, stories, craft and prayer and providing simple message of God’s love to His children.

Parents with small babies are welcome to stay, if they prefer. Though we do encourage parents to leave the children if they feel happy to.

The SWAMP: Under 3’s Sunday Worship and Morning Praise

The SWAMP (Under 3s Sunday Worship and Morning Praise) is a play area (within the church) which tries to meet the needs of young families with babies and infant children. It takes place during the 10am Contemporary Morning Worship service at St. Ouens Parish Church. It begins after a short time of sung worship, with the main body of the congregation. Families then move to the supervised ‘play area,’ within the church, by the church entrance porch.

Under 3’s Sunday Worship and Morning Praise (SWAMP) is on every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday. It is held in ‘The Fellowship Area’ of the Church. With this age group, we focus on familiarising the infants with the church surroundings, establishing a routine of play, stories, craft and prayer and providing simple message of God’s love to His children.

Parents are welcome to stay with babies and toddlers, or (if they feel confident) leave their children in our lively ‘church creche,’ while they attend the service. We do encourage parents to leave their Under 3s, if they feel happy to. We understand parents with small babies need to stay. There is an open baby changing area in the corner of the play area. There are some outside toilets a short walk through the graveyard and on the way to the car park.

Pre-School and Primary School Children (aged 3-11)

SOCKs (St. Ouen’s Church Kids) Children aged 3-11

Sunday Groups for pre-school and primary school children (aged 3-11) take place at St. Ouen’s Youth and Community Centre (YCC.) Children are dropped off between 9:40am and 9:55am. During this arrival time, children share together in a short time of free play using the sports equipment and toys. This fun but rather busy environment is supervised by leaders and helpers, who are on hand to make sure, newcomers are welcomed, no-one is left out, and especially that very young children are looked after, engaged, happy and secure.

Our session begins with a time of children’s worship. Then we sit together to listen to a bible story. From this point we split into 2-3 separate groups (usually by age-group) for our discussion, teaching and activity time, which usually takes up most of the session.

We often use a science activity to fascinate children, illustrate the point of teaching and embed the message of the bible passage into the session. Some examples of science activities are teabag rockets, slime activities chemical reactions, erupting emotions and Mentos geysers!

We then play some games before finishing with a fun prayer activity. The group are then transported by leaders and helpers to The Parish Church, to join their families towards the end of the service, at around 11am.
