Plough Sunday at St. George’s Church

On Sunday 12th January, St. George’s Church will celebrate Plough Sunday. Plough Sunday is traditionally a service of prayer, dedication and blessing for all those involved in agriculture and the countryside. It is an opportunity to cherish the land and human labour, and to remind us all of our dependence upon it and upon God.

Plough Sunday is held annually in St. George’s Church in January, on the first Sunday after Epiphany. This is the traditional Sunday which marks the beginning of the farming year. The plough is usually delivered to church, for the service of blessing which is accompanied by prayers from the farming community for the coming year’s work on the land leading to a plentiful harvest.

Readings

Psalm 65 v.1-13 and Matthew 6 v.25-34

Come and join us again at the 11am Traditional Morning Worship Service!

The 11am Traditional Morning Worship service, at St. George’s Church, is traditional, Anglican in style. The service of worship includes hymns led by an organ and/or piano and practical teaching from the Bible. We meet at 11am at St. George’s Church, with the service usually lasting one hour.

On a Sunday, usually about 25-30 adults of our community meet together. On the fourth Sunday of the month we serve coffee and tea after the service.
