The SWAMP: (Under 3’s Sunday Worship and Morning Praise) Babies and Infants (Ages 0-3)

The SWAMP (Under 3s Sunday Worship and Morning Praise) is a play area (within the church) which tries to meet the needs of young families with babies and infant children. It takes place during the 10am Contemporary Morning Worship service at St. Ouens Parish Church. It begins after a short time of sung worship, with the main body of the congregation. Families then move to the supervised ‘play area,’ within the church, by the church entrance porch.

Parents are welcome to stay with babies and toddlers, or (if they feel confident) leave their children in our lively ‘church creche,’ while they attend the service. We do encourage parents to leave their Under 3s, if they feel happy to. We understand parents with small babies need to stay. There is an open baby changing area in the corner of the play area. There are some outside toilets a short walk through the graveyard and on the way to the car park.

SOCKs (St. Ouen’s Church Kids) Children’s Sunday Groups (Ages 3-11)

Sunday Groups for pre-school and primary school children (aged 3-11) take place at St. Ouen’s Youth and Community Centre (YCC.) Children are dropped off between 9:40am and 9:55am. During this arrival time, children share together in a short time of free play using the sports equipment and toys, supervised by leaders and helpers.

Our session begins with a time of children’s worship. Then we sit together to listen to a bible story. From this point we split into 2-3 separate groups (usually by age-group) for our discussion, teaching and activity time, which usually takes up most of the session.

We often use a science activity to fascinate children, illustrate the point of teaching and embed the message of the bible passage into the session. Some examples of science activities are teabag rockets, slime activities chemical reactions, erupting emotions and Mentos geysers! We then play some games before finishing with a fun prayer activity. The group are then transported by leaders and helpers to The Parish Church, to join their families towards the end of the service, at around 11am.

GRID: Sunday Youth Group (Ages 11-18)

Grid is our Sunday morning Youth Group. This group is open to all young people in secondary school years 7-13. However, the 16-18 year olds have the option, to stay with the main congregation, for worship and teaching talks in Church, if they prefer.

Grid (our Sunday Youth Group) begins from 9:45am at St. Ouen’s Youth and Community Centre (YCC.) The youth group runs alongside the 10am Contemporary Worship Service.

For the first 15 minutes, we start all together with the younger children, and enjoy some time socialising, catching up and playing games in the building’s Main Hall. At 10am the youth split from the primary school children. We move into our group for bible study, with a variety of games, activities and discussion to help us understand what we read in the bible. We look at how the Bible impacts and is relevant to us today. We have a time praying together, before being transported back to the Parish Church to join the main congregation, at the end of the service.

Monthly

All Age Family Sunday Service, with Breakfast from 9.30am

On the first Sunday of the month at the Parish Church, we meet together for All Age Family Worship, as a church family of all ages. We meet from 9:30am to catch up over croissants and pain-au-chocolats. The All Age Sunday service starts at 10am. This lively, vibrant and sometimes noisy family service lasts for approximately an hour. The service sometimes has interactive sections where we can all learn together, according to our preferred learning styles. This is also the Sunday service where family Baptisms or Christenings take place at St. Ouen’s Parish Church.
